The books of the old and new testaments were individual scrolls, authored for the most part by Jews, and compiled into a book by Christians. The Bible (book) didn't exist before the church age. The only claim that gentiles can have on the Scriptures is to the whole testimony of the book that God gave to them. If gentiles bypass the book (which contains the gospel of the grace of God to the gentiles) to go back to the old, individual scrolls (the Law) then they are seeking out something that was never meant for them, and ignoring the gift that God gave to them.

For me, it means the living Word of God. John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. God's message to mankind. A guide book to the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Also 2Tim 3:14-17 comes to mind in the key to understand the use and purpose of the scriptures. 14 But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, 15 and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. 16 All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, 17 so that the servant of God[a] may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

The Bible is God's Revelation about Himself to us men and women. The Bible is His Word to man!

The Bible shows us how we are to live! It reveals to us how we are to love God and how that God desires and deserves our love, our worship and our service! The Bible reveals how God also loves us! The Bible reveals how we are to live holy lives and how we can become holy. The Bible reveals to us so much about who God is! ...and who we are ... and yet, how we can become "Holy, as He is Holy."

The Bible reveals God is Holy, Just, Omnipotent and yet Loving, Merciful and Gracious to man! Each of us can read the Bible and respond individually to His Word and choose to worship God and obey and love Him as HE demands and as HE is worthy of from us mere mortal created beings... or, we can choose to reject His Holy Word, revealed and recorded for us in The Bible.

I choose to do as Joshua so boldly pronounced, "...but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD." (Josh.24:15)

I would like to know your heart as to what you feel the Bible is.

The way people answer this question is an indicator of their own understanding of the word of God.
