American politics are a lot more complicated than the Canadian system. I sure hope that Ron Paul can turn things around!

What is the point of voting in the primaries when the delegates can go against the wishes of the electorate and select whoever they want to.
It doesn't seem entirely democratic. And why the need for these delegates in the first place?

It isn't democratic. But, we're not even supposed to be a democracy. We're a republic.

I heard about some guy in Texas in the 1920's who went into (something like a Republican convention) with the least amount of delegates and came out with the nomination. People are saying Ron Paul might do the same, apparently he became the president. I have no idea how a democracy and a republic are different. But I do agree with Cointreau that your system doesn't seem democratic but perhaps when you vote for the president it becomes more democratic. Sorry for my ignorance on your political system.
