The 2012 UK £2 Charles Dickens Silver Proof Coin
Matthew Dent has created a stunning new design for the reverse of the coin. Cleverly combining a contemporary technique with a Victorian image, it features the well-known profile of Dickens created out of type, made up of the titles of his works. Some of the famous works are here, from his early writings ‘Sketches by Boz’ to his final, unfinished novel, ‘The Mystery of Edwin Drood.’ The edge of this Solid Silver £2 coin is inscribed with an uplifting quote, from Dickens’ own favourite story, ‘David Copperfield’. It is the voice of the lovable and irrepressible Mr Micawber saying ‘SOMETHING WILL TURN UP’. Denomination £2 Alloy Inner: .925 sterling silver. Outer: .925 sterling silver plated with fine gold Weight 12.00 g Diameter 28.40 mm This coin is not for me but some of you may like it! Those who are unwilling to invest in the future haven't earned one. ~H.W. Lewis |

If they could do something similar with the queens image they might be on to something! (Just kidding.) Interesting coin, thanks for the post.

RE: The 2012 UK £2 Charles Dickens Silver Proof Coin
A great writer....he had some really good books that I've enjoyed over the years.
A childhood favorite was probably 'Great Expectations' There will be some bookworms out there that are into coins also....that will probably love this offering. My trouble has always been with having the Queen Mum on the one side....seems very wasteful |

RE: The 2012 UK £2 Charles Dickens Silver Proof Coin
This new Charles Dickens coin is not in circulation and the Royal Mint are charging £7.50 for it. I happen to like it and as I have all the other £2 coin special editions so I will probably fork out for it and pay a premium of 275%!
As it happens, I tried reading the Pickwick Papers and just the first page gave me a severe headache. Light reading it is not. Perhaps I will give Great Expectations a go. |

RE: The 2012 UK £2 Charles Dickens Silver Proof Coin
I am also collecting the olympics 50 pence coins. there are 29 of them in total and over the last few months I have only managed to collect only eleven of them. They are not much to look at mind. The coins themselves cover 29 different sports. They may have some numismatic value in future, especially the football coin which attempts to explain the offside rule.
Nigerian prince, do I take it you are Nigerian? And living in what country? Sorry for being nosy!. It would not surprise me if you wasn't actually Nigerian and Mr Kruger wasn't actually of oriental descent. |
