Question regarding heavy shipments
For those who buy in boat loads, has anyone had issues with their shipments regarding privacy and questions asked from nosey delivery guys?
I've had at least 2 issues so far with shipments from Gainesville. Once a USPS mailman ask about such a heavy package. I usually dollar cost average buys at regular intervals and a typical shipment can be as heavy as 10-15 pounds. Unfortunately, Gainesville would ship in small boxes often just about big enough to fit all the metals and thus makes for a questionably heavy shipment in a small package. The most recent and most disturbing shipment from Gainesville was via UPS. The typical small packaging arrived partially SLICED OPENED! The weight was correct and ultimately nothing was missing, but I really felt like my privacy was violated by UPS or that delivery guy. The sliced opening was definitely enough to look inside and see the contents. I am going to complain to Gainesville about this as this is simply unacceptable. Precious metals are suppose to be one of the most private investments but in this case it clearly was no longer. I feel that I have now added unnecessary danger to my family members. It maybe a shame if I had to stop taking further delivery. |

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
OH great... just ordered from Gainsville!
They should write "Fruit Cake of the month club" on the outside or something just to confuse the delivery guy..Or something disgusting like "Wart Removal Kit".. (?) |

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
I like how Provident ships. The outside of the box said it was from Provident Metal Bearings or something like that, making it look like it was car parts, which also would have explained the weight of the package. Unfortunately, of all of the places I have ordered from, theirs took the longest to ship out to me so I haven't ordered from them again, even though I felt they had the best prices. Ten days is a long time, to me, to get my order... particularly when every day the Fed or some bank or government engages in yet another really stupid activity.
Some places have a comments section when you place the order (I think either Bullion Direct or APMEX?) and I would think you could have them ship it in a more confidential manner if you asked. As to what to tell the postman...just tell him you ordered car parts and wow, aren't they heavy? Silver could be used to make car parts, couldn't it? |

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
I bought this a little while back (scroll down).
http://www.ebay.com/itm/370569953685?ssP...1497.l2648 I got very strange looks when it was delivered due to seemingly inexplicable weight of such a small package. |

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
I have placed quite a few heavy orders from Gainesville. They always came in a box marked machine parts. Only once the mailman asked me if I was a mechanic. I can only hope to have these issues in the future.

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
Just an update after having called both Gainesville and UPS...
Gainesville said that they would normally ship that small box within another larger box for shipments via UPS. However, after I asked about my concern that they include their phone number on top of their return address, they said that it was UPS policy to include the company phone number. I told them that I found that very troublesome and disturbing because as anyone can confirm by calling that number, their automated introduction message is "Welcome to Gainesville Coins." Basically anyone handling the packages (including especially curious delivery guys) can simply call that phone number and therefore know what is being shipped in a package! I suggested that if they intend on keeping my business or on keeping my size of orders that they seriously consider improving customer privacy by setting up another phone number for only their shipping department and not mention coins. Unfortunately to me, this is a great shame that I may have to look elsewhere or only ship via USPS and make significantly smaller orders. Gainesville did really have the best pricing most of the time. |

I get a lot and they are heavy, never once has she asked, it usually goes like this...postlady "hey you got another one you need to sign for" me "thanks, beautiful day out today huh" postlady "yea a lot better than yesterday" me "alright thanks have a good one" postlady " yea you too, see ya later"
and that's the end of it everytime. |

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
UPS said that they would contact their local shipping center in which that package was held after the first delivery attempt in their high-value secure storage area. They said that they do occasionally check random packages but opening them but would also reseal them. They agreed that is was suspicious that the package was sliced open partially and not resealed if it was in fact inspected. Either way, I now have serious doubts with shipping via UPS.

RE: Question regarding heavy shipments
Kitco shipped me bars in a 5 gallon pail. I thought it was a smart idea...as it comes with a handle making it easy to carry. Also, you could bury in the back yard if you are that way inclined.
