RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
Nice video!
As a suggestion, I used my food vacuum pack to seal my ammo as it will keep it dry. For instance, with 9mm, I sealed two 50 round boxes in one pack. Great for a bug out on the go situation or long term storage. I do have a law enforcement / military background and have been around guns all my life, though I do not consider myself an expert; I know a lot about the guns I own, but not all guns. If you are new to guns and do not plan on spending much time learning about them, keep it simple! I would suggest a stainless (won't rust if you don't clean it regularly) .357 revolver (S&W is my choice). You can use .38 or .357 ammo in it, it requires little maintenance. They are point and pull the trigger and there is little to go wrong. I have a 9mm Glock, but if you are not going to spend the time to train and maintain an automatic, stick with a revolver! As for survival hunting, it won't be deer or elk that will be the mainstay, but small animals (rabbit / squirrels, etc). I would next buy a .22 rifle. I chose a Remington 10/22 .22 caliber rifle. You can get a lot of .22 ammo cheaply today, and may be one of the least effected most available type of ammo in the future. I decided to also buy a .22 cal handgun to compliment my .22lr ammo pile; I chose a Sig Sauer Mosquito and added a silencer (yes I paid the $200 for the tax stamp registering it to a family trust). This was in part because my plan A is to hunker down in place in the outskirts of a medium size metro area where sometimes, you may not want your shots heard! Just some thoughts! |

RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
dont forget to load up on birdshot RIGHT NOW, it is still available for cheap. one of the only rounds available. it is a no brainer, for using and for a bartering scenario.

As long as it stays at a regulated temperature, it will be fine. .22LR is probably the hardest ammo to find now, second only to .223/5.56. It is wise to accumulate as much .22LR as possible, as it is few and far between in my neck of the woods. Deer rifle calibers are starting to show up in plentiful numbers at Academy, but still no .22LR. |

RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
This is a very old video Dec 2008 - is it still hard to find ammo? There is lots of ammo in Canada. I never really thought of a .22LR as a serious weapon. I was thinking of getting a SKS Russian semi auto. They are not restricted in Canada.

Supposedly, it is the choice caliber of assassins because it enters the skull, bounces around, and does not exit. It is a choice caliber of preppers because you can carry 500 rounds of ammo in a 5" X 5" box, and it weighs only a few pounds at most. It can take small game from coyote size animals on down from 100-200 yards away. It is the rifle most people learn to shoot rifles with, and is probably the most prevalent rifle in American households. The SKS is a great choice! I would choose the SKS over the AK. I find them more accurate, more reliable, and used to be much cheaper. I don't use detachable magazines, but many people do. Ammo is still much cheaper than most other rifle calibers, and is still fairly easy to find. |

RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
22lr are so old fashion, even 22 magnum is better but still outdated. Step up to todays high performance world with the .17 hmr round. You can still find them where 22lr is sold out.

RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
yep there is probably a lot better choice out there to protect yourself and your stack but a 22 is the cheapest way to play and don't ever think one of em won't kill you. lol

RE: Preparation Of Firearms & Ammunition
Actually the .17 is about the same price. Heck even a paintball gun can kill you if you get hit in the right place.
I bet i can catch it in my teeth... |
