It’s not the hookers, it’s the Secret Service
Republican Congressman Pete King of Long Island briefed the New York Post on that Colombian affair in which Secret Service agents stiffed a hooker, which led to an international incident. I realize what happens TDY stays TDY — the rules of the road are not the same as those at home in the minds of some government workers. But what this incident tells Joe Taxpayer that running the security for a president is a gravy train filled with all sorts of perks.
From the New York Post: One of 11 elite agents assigned to ensure President Obama’s protection at a summit meeting in Cartagena, Colombia, was busted after his lady of the evening refused to leave his hotel room in the morning without her fee. It takes 11 elite Secret Service agents to case the place in advance? That woman was one of 11 hookers hired by the agents — and the only one who hadn’t left Cartagena’s swank Hotel Caribe, where White House staffers, members of the press and dignitaries are staying during the Summit of the Americas meeting, sources said. They travel at the top hotels and not Motel 6? A hotel employee told The Associated Press that agents arrived at the beachfront hotel a week ago and drank heavily during their stay. So taxpayers send Secret Service personnel to South America ostensibly to plan the president’s security and thy turn it into Spring Break. I am convinced this is not an anomaly but rather standard operating procedure. Consider the situation. You are protected from any criticism and given a blank check because you are protecting the president’s life. The staff keeps expanding, which means more supervisors and even higher pay. What a life. My advice to anyone in their 20s looking for a job, sign up with the Secret Service. It’s the Golden Ticket. We now know what life must have been like for the Praetorian Guard. Sure, there is a little flak now: An expert on the Secret Service yesterday said that, although the agents involved in the scandal were not breaking Colombian law, most of them are married and could have been exposed to blackmail. “It could have resulted in a potential assassination attempt on the president,” said Ronald Kessler, author of “In the President’s Secret Service.” “It the biggest scandal in the history of the Secret Service and the most basic breach of security,” the author said. But does anyone think Harry Reid or John Boehner will call for an investigation or hold a serious discussion over the future of this agency. The 20-Escalade motorcades will continue carrying that army of 100 party boys and girls wherever the president goes. One change. Give them all government-issued cards to pay the hookers. We would not want people in those “above their weight class” countries getting the wrong idea. |
