I hope . . .

I hope . . .
I hope . . .

For those of us who are “awake” to what’s happening in the world it is easy to be inundated and overrun by bad news. The news feeds we read are not the same as the 6 o’clock news that the sheeple get and we know that everything is not “OK”. We are trying to prep for a SHTF scenario and many of us still have a ways to go.

And yet the context in which I write this is on the occasion of my daughters’ convocation from University. Despite how easy it is to trash our youth (and sometimes justifiably so) it was refreshing to be surrounded by youth who were looking forward to the future in a positive fashion, many who have already impacted their communities in a positive manner. My daughter has a circle of friends who are aware of the challenges ahead, who are buying and supporting local small business instead of the mega-chains, who are living in a frugal manner, trying to get out of the debts they incurred by hard work, and still find time to contribute and help others in their various ways.

My wife and I are relatively new to this prepping and have a long ways to go ourselves. The fact that I’m underemployed and she is recently unemployed does not help. My daughter knowing our financial situation had no expectations of a gift - she is grateful for all the help along the way in the past 4 years. We still felt like doing something and instead of a cash gift (which would have gone to pay down a student loan), we went into our humble stash and pulled out a tube of maples.

My daughter and son already have a couple of ounces of silver (birthday and Christmas) and the “talk” about PM and how they are a hedge against inflation. To their credit – they get it. My daughter thought the tube of Maples was perfect. It is a store of wealth – set aside from other forms of money – something that needs to be thought about before being liquidated.

My sons is stuck in a 60 hour a week job – yet he gets it – he is aware of what’s happening and wants to get off the grid and is totally not interested in accumulating “stuff” of no value.

I started this out with ‘I hope. . .

To say that I hope there is enough time for my wife and I to prep for whatever is coming is selfish – but necessary. But seeing the optimism of the youth yesterday I want to say -

‘I hope that things don’t unravel too fast – for all our sakes’.
‘I hope some of these kids have a chance to make a difference.’
‘I hope they do not get caught up in the world like so many others.’
‘I hope some of us adults realize that despite the “brainwashing” that we feel goes on in many of these institutions of learning that many youth see past that and are making positive changes.

Apologies if this is too rambling – it is a “little” bit about silver.

RE: I hope . . .
Dragonfly,

You have already done well by your children. They "get it" and the knowledge you have given them is perhaps the greatest gift of all. Once they know what is going on... they just can't go back to having the blinders on..Smile My daughter is 11. She also starting to "get it". I only hope that she will continue to soak up the truth.

As for the time we have left, even if you don't have anything stored up... you are still mentally way ahead of the game. People that haven't a clue will be so distraught and will have to deal with the emotional realizations of what has happened and will actually "grieve". We have all been there already... We have worked through those emotions already and will just move forward and do the best we can knowing what we know already. We won't be as easily fooled. This is an advantage for sure.

Time may still be on your side as things generally take longer to unravel than most people think.

I very thoughtful and caring message for us all. Thanks Dragonfly for sharing your inner heart, it good for us all to have hope especially for our children.

RE: I hope . . .
Excellent post Dragonfly. My guess is that we have about 2-3 years before things get really ugly. Fox news isn't the real news so it's up to me to teach my children . My plan as a long term stacker is to continue purchasing silver until the $35.00 level and then I will begin to buy more food items and supplies. I Wish You All The Best.

RE: I hope . . .
Great job with your children dragonfly, as Honey said that alone is worth a vault full of silver, what is more inportant than teaching our children to know and practice the turth? The fact that you have taught your children not to feed the beast is the best prep you could ever do! You think you have a long way to go but you my friend are miles ahead!!!!!
