How we spent our Saturday evening
The wife and I went up to Hatcher Pass this Saturday evening. It is a public use area in the Mat Su Valley up here. During the summer there are plenty of hiking trails, bike paths, etc.... In the winter it is mainly used for Snow Machine's, sleds, and cross country skiing.

Anyways snapped some pictures of the scenery while we were there, and figured I would share here.

Easier just to post the link to the Gallery, as the images are large.

Neat, but you forgot the -Ski's, snowboard, snowshoes, snowmobile - what ever floats the boat? Looks like a nice area though, not allot of snow but any snow is good snow. might have to bring the sleds up and try the area out some day. We only got 2 inches on snow lastnight. oh well, more expected on Wednesday. Smile

Not allot? We have had 130 inches this year. There is easily 3-5 feet of snow on the mountains

That is what happens up in the mountains at higher elevations. I can confirm we have LOTS of trees!

Yes. Our camper is parked on the Platte River and when the river is low.. you can ride for miles and miles on the sandbars. Unfortunately, I have gotten stuck a few times but I never go alone so thank goodness someone was there to pull me out! We had to sit there quite a while until the belt dried out.

I live at high altitude in the Sierra Nevada's, about 7000 ft. el. This is only 21 (160") feet which isn't as much as the ski resorts get, they average around 450". These numbers would be season totals. At any one time you would be looking at 5 to 15 feet in front of ya. Ya better like snow if you live around here. Smile

Very nice. We weren't near 7k feet, that is for sure. Let me see if I can find the elevation we were at. What kind of broadband can you get up there?

Thanks. Yea it all depends on where i'm at. I can get DSL (3.0mb) at home, there is Cable (8g) just a few miles away, and one place i work they have a t-3, and another place i work we are on a 10mb Radio transmitter. Smile Just about everyone has a generator and transfer switch for power when the lights go out.

Thanks agbear Smile Yes it is a beautiful setting, the view is great and i have some of the oldest trees in the area (can't see them in these pictures) on my property that are like 300 year old Sugar pines. They are huge, about 5 foot around at the base, over 120 feet tall and produce giant pine cones that are as big as 14 inches long and 4 to 5 inches wide. I sometimes sell them on ebay. I got $19.00 once for 1 huge pinecone in an auction around Christmas a few years back. hehe Smile
