How did you wake up?
Long time lurker first time poster.

Just curious to what opened your eyes to gold and silver and how this world really works?

For me it was Jan. 2011 and a friend of mine sent me a link to the End of America video put out by Stansberry & Associates. That really got me thinking and reading. It really scared me that this could really be true, I lost sleep for months over that darn video, but looking back now it was the best thing that could have happened to me and my family. With my silver shield I sleep alot better now..

Big thanks to Brotherjohn and the like's for what you do!!

RE: How did you wake up?
I woke up from reading "Natural Cures" by Kevin Trudeau. I learned about food, corporations, medications. Then I discovered the truth about 9/11, chemtrails, NWO, HAARP, Bilderberg etc. Now I'm still learning about monetary/economics. I started to wake up in December 2005. Still learning though.

RE: How did you wake up?
For me honestly it was having a little money back in 2/2011 to invest and checking out Robert Kiyosaki's rich dad poor dad series on youtube was the wake-up call for me. "The number one investment is silver" were his words, which lead me to brotherjohnf (go physical if you're going to invest) and mike maloney, and the rest is history. People are slowly waking up, but most are still in denial. I think a tough point to make here is that this is not "FUN!!!!" My wife says I'm wrapping myself up in this. I don't want to read about how our government is screwing up the works, about tough times across the world and kicking the can down the road. I want to be hopeful, I have twin 6 yr old girls and I have no clue what to tell them to look forward too in the world their about to grow up in. I am so thankful for RK, MM, (Pastor Dowell) & Brotherjohnf but a practice in fun this is not. I almost feel like stacking silver is hedging vs. disaster. Appreciate all of you and trusting in God for the rest. GMAC.

He asked HOW, not when. Although I'm sure both are equally important together. As for me, I started to wake up sometime in early 2009. I started listening to Peter Schiff and researching Austrian Economics, then began to follow Ron Paul and other libertarians. The key was simply understanding that the government was going to continue printing, destroying the purchasing power of the dollar. The most logical thing to do after that is prepare, and so I bought my first silver on E-Bay, silver was around 25 an ounce, and I got two coins for 50 dollars. It wasn't long before those types of deals were virtually unheard of.

For me it was 1993. I went to visit my best friend in OK and her husband just started talking about all of this stuff. He gave me a few books, one of which was "The Creature From Jekyll Island" . That was one good book! Have been a very avid reader ever since.

Oh I guess it's because how lazy i am to read the whole post. Well actually my dad got me into it when i was about 9 years old. I remember that day when he brought me to this coin shop and I bought my first 1 oz gold Krugerrand. Now you're probably thinking how old I am. Well actually I'm 16 right now. I'm a pretty young stacker, eh?

RE: How did you wake up?
Well ... in 1994 Mexico has the worst Hyperinflation period in his modern History ... the peso is devalued 114% ($3.40 to $8.70) in 1 year, the Bank of Mexico rise the Interest rate over 90 points and the inflation go to 130%, also the bank of Mexico rescue the Bankers and give to them 552 billion pesos in the name of Banking Fund for the Protection of Savings (FOBAPROA) the worst act of robbery to the Mexican People; This chain of events wake me up, and for this time "1994" to now i am BULL in the Physical Silver market.
I am an old BULL. Tongue

RE: How did you wake up?
last year Alex Jones did a radio spot advertising endofamerica11.com for porter stansberry, i checked it out to see if i could call b.s. on any of their info,... i listened to it three times in a row, all the while falling down the rabbit hole, i feel like i slept too long, there is so much work to do, and i feel time is running out.

RE: How did you wake up?
When 9/11 happened, a flag went up for me; but, I put it aside. When Iraq was invaded, I began to read and study. In early 2008, I could see the market was going to drop, but I did not want to believe it and did not react. I lost a lot. After the 2008 crash, all the pieces came togather for me and I was finally fully awake. Early 2009, I bought my first gold. As I read and studied more, I switched to silver.

Use it up, wear it out, make it do, do without.

I started from food too.I learned a lot about it. Then I was surfing on youtube and came across a debate with Ron Paul. From there I learned more about him.
He talked about sound money, gold and silver standard etc. I was like what? Oooo yeah gold and silver is money. I've always known that but never gave much thought to it. Then I searched to learn more about money. Came across Bill Still movie The Secret of Oz and The Money Masters. fractional reserve lending,Debt, banks, feds, imf etc.I was following the money and learning. Then I looked up silver and gold. BrotherJohnF,Maloney,Schiff,Stgbull07,JamesTurk,silverfuturist,endlessmountain,TruthneverTold.Zerohedge etc. till now.More to learn.....

RE: How did you wake up?
Must have read hundreds of books and similar number of alternative view videos before 9/11 and have been aware the game is rigged for most of my adult life, never took on debt and never expected a pension to be there by the time I retired, I just kinda knew it instinctively having grown up in the 70s 80s depression here in the UK, but regarding sliver Ted Butler did it for me, sometime between 2004/2005 I was selling silver jewellery at the time and I must have read everything I could find on silver within a week of finding Teds article archives. I remember it hit me like a brick so hard the next month I closed shop, put the silver stock on ice and worked out a 10 year plan to sort things and get the hell out of dodge. Currently on track but moved things forward a few years due to the crap being thrown at the fan since 2008, sooner or later its gonna stick and its looking increasingly like sooner.

Voluntarily bashes gold or silver BS when seen or heard .... for free

RE: How did you wake up?
My first buy was back in 1979, a friend owned a pawn shop and sold gold and silver. He convinced me to make a purchase to help protect against inflation. I sold a year later and made some money. But kept some of it until this day. I got interested again in 2007 when I read an article that Ted Butler wrote. That got me reignited, and started reading everything I could get my hands on.

RE: How did you wake up?
For me it's a long, never-ending process of learning to discern lies. Moving from darkness to light. One of the first things I can remember is 20 years ago when my boyfriend (now my husband) asked me, There are thousands of important events that take place every day. Why are the same stories reported on every channel? At that moment I knew, vaguely, that the world was not according to appearance. Since then, I've come to understand that almost everything that I used to think was true is a lie.

RE: How did you wake up?
The more i learn, the more i realize i will never be awake. I will always be in an improving state of slightly less asleep. What really gets me is the vague notion that being awake isn't even the purpose of life. Being awake is only the prerequisite to being able to figure out the purpose of life. But if the more i learn the more i realize i'll never learn enough, and the more i learn the more i knew is proven false, can i really assume to truly KNOW anything at all? But how can i know purpose in life if knowing anything at all is so asolutely difficult?

Seems to me that no individual, alone, in a single life span, can know anything at all. Perhaps that is what the secret societies are all about?

RE: How did you wake up?
Business news network. Canadian Investment show on television, saw an interview in July 2010 with a guy named Greg McCoach who predicted gold would be over $1400 by December, it was trading around $1100.00 at the time. They laughed at him, which I thought was quite rude. He asked if he could return in December to dixcuss his prediction. Sure enough gold was $1450 and I was impressed. I subscribe to both his services and have done very well in the Canadian Jr mining sector. Thanks Greg.

November 2010. First time i ever had over 1k in the bank. I had always known about inflation but it doesn't hit you so hard when you live paycheck to paycheck. Sobering thought that in 7-11 years anything i make today will be worth half as much.

RE: How did you wake up?
For me, it was an educational process over the last 4 years. I started watching vids on youtube, and reading educational blogs. I also saw where the government was headed with their terrible economic policies. I raided my retirement fund over a year or so, and bought silver on a dollar cost averaging method. I have never looked back. Buying silver was the smartest thing I ever did. Ownership of physical silver remains the key part of a prep plan to deal with what will surely be some hard times ahead. keep stackin.

RE: How did you wake up?
I would continually hear some co-workers talking about the silver market. They made a pretty big deal about the May smack down. When I asked what they were talking about they pointed me to some good books and other information. Didn't make my first purchase until August 2011 but now I buy silver almost every month.

RE: How did you wake up?
I have always known something is not right but never really researched into banking and ecconomics. My brother helped me see what was going on and sent me links to brotherjohnf videos on youtube and Jim Comiskey etc.

It took a lot to purchase my first coins but I puchased just after the all time high and have been buying ever since. I think I was lucky to have had the massive price fall over the past 6 months as I increased my stack loads.

RE: How did you wake up?
The End of America video did it for me too at the end of last year. That was when I started to wake up.
Us 'preppers' are still very much in the minority though.
Having said that, one of my colleagues at work has been buying gold because he has awoken. He is Turkish.
Also, the receptionist in the building where my bullion dealer has its office, well he has cashed in his pension and he now has one kilogram of gold.
Another eye opener for me was when a city worker, who was passing by the camp site outside St Pauls Cathedral in London, was briefly interviewed by a news reporter and he said that the money in your pocket could end up being worthless. That made me sit up and take notice.

RE: How did you wake up?
My daughter being born (Dec 2010) and the financial preparations I started making because of it.

For a long time, I had contributed to an RRSP (Canadian 401K), but when my wife was pregnant, I opened up a TFSA (tax free savings account) and found it odd that most of the investments were the same as what you could invest in RRSPs. I was going to open an RESP (education savings plan) when I saw that the investments in the RESP were the same as RRSP and TFSA.

Being a passive, uninvolved investor, one who throws money into mutual funds without checking on them, I began reviewing my investment performance. I then looked at the 10 year silver chart and was blown away.

Started watching some YT channels: Davincjij, Silverfuturist, BJF and a few others and did some research on my own. The fundamentals were astonishing.

I cashed out all my RRSP's in 2011, what I had saved in about 5 years, and bought silver with it at about $37. Absolutely no regrets. I want my daughter to have a good future and every day it's clear to me that the road I took, that my baby-boomer parents said was the best path, was the wrong one and one on which there will be no future for the next generation.

Go to school, get a good job, buy mutual funds. It was all lies. I look at my daughter and think about the kids I'm going to have and my heart aches thinking that the prosperity I and my parents enjoyed as members of our respective generations, they will most likely never know.

At the very least, my hope is that I can position them to be better off than their peers who I believe will most likely have to endure a broken, dilapidated standard of living that will be a direct consequence of my generation and the previous generation's ignorance and narcissism.

May the best pet win!
