High Relief kookaburra, available now and looking like an epic flop.
Perth mint didn't list it on their front page so it isn't selling as fast because you have to search for it by name on their website. They started with around 750 available on their site. 668 remaining.

kooks are always selling fast! grrrrr, no money at the moment. :-(
Looks like I'll wait for 2013 edition if silver is still a bargain. |

RE: High Relief kookaburra, available now, selling fast.
These hr kooks are not doing what i thought they would, at all. I emailed the perth mint to cancel my order of 10. The paradise mint has 1400 of them and i could buy them for less. I am gonna wait for a few days to see what demand looks like for this coin. So far the interest just isnt there. I expected it would be!

My order is officially cancelled. I'll sit and watch what these do while paradisemint still has a bunch.

RE: High Relief kookaburra, available now and looking like an epic flop.
I really want to pick up a coupe of these . . .really like the design and so far don't have any high relief coins. But, silver is under $30 now and seems there is more short term bearish talk out there.
Maybe I'll just sit tight for a while. $100+ on a coin is quite the premium (this is no hedgehog ).

Ya, sometimes things just don't behave the way you think they would. I am pretty baffled why they made the mintage on this one 10k...the hr dragon was 7500 and it was a dragon! Much more in demand than kookaburra. Assumptions are the most dangerous things in the universe. |

Is the free shipping all the time or just a special that they are running?[/align]

Just got a note back from Paradise mint - no shipping to Canada on orders under $5000
. That definitely eliminates my order . . . . "Don't judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant. "R.L. Stevenson |

RE: High Relief kookaburra, available now and looking like an epic flop.
no shipping or no FREE shipping? This is a seriously huge oversight on the part of the perth mint and paradisemint if they won't ship to canada for under $5000...
How the hell is a canadian supposed to get their hr kook? Fortunately prices on ebay are pretty low right now I suppose. Assumptions are the most dangerous things in the universe. |

Mojo - here is the exact reply from Paradise Mint:
5/3/2012 10:44:06 AM "We do not ship any retail shipments to canada. We can do wholesale shipments or orders above $5000 with payment made via wire transfer." Business much be good for them if they feel like cutting out a whole segment of people who could buy form them. FWIW I picked up one more regular Kook from my LCS today . . . RE: High Relief kookaburra, available now and looking like an epic flop.
That is a huge oversight on the part of the perth mint. Huge. If I were you I would write the perth mint and strongly suggest they more carefully examine their decisions to limit shipping locations before they make another mistake like this. Hell, I might even write them. This pisses me off.

I thought the HR kook was going to sell quickly but then I noticed they still had 2011 HR kangaroos available for sale. Seeing the 2011 still available made me hold off on the 2012.

RE: High Relief kookaburra, available now and looking like an epic flop.
I knew the kangaroo was still available.. But I thought the kookaburra would be in a whole different category than the roo. Especially after the hr dragon did so well. I'm wondering if it was the mintage of 10,000? or maybe people saw the HR dragon and decided they don't like the size of the coin. A lot of people, including myself, have argued the HR's should be 2 oz instead.

it also has something to do with not being able to find it on the first day in all the frenzy because im sure there are others like me who go there for 1 or 2 coins and just end up adding something random to make 300.. either way i still think it will get popular over time it just may not be the greatest flipping coin

Also,
A regular one ounce dragon goes for around $80.00 vs a Kook that goes for $40.00. So markup in premium for the HR dragon was appr 25% whereas for the Kook it was appr 150%. |

premium on the 1oz dragon is dying. Those things came out of the line way overpriced and the premium has been correcting ever since. That's why I like the half ounce so much. It's much more reasonably priced.

I hope Perth doesn't ruin the standard 1/2 ounce dragon coins with an bunch of colorized, gilded, or privy remakes.
The two completed listings on Ebay for HR Kooks sold for $96.00 and $93.00. A few others have bidding at $99.00. I'd say is someone "sort of" wanted a Kook they may be able to get them a bit cheaper bidding on ebay. |
