I like calling it Constitutional silver...
but anyways. GoldMart shipped be 100 bucks worth of Silver Dimes. I requested all Quarters. I sent the dimes back and GoldMart just gave me a tough decision to make: 1. wait for the quarters. - could be at least another week. They are currently OUT OF QUARTERS. 2. Get a free upgrade to a bag of Halves. Apparently both 64 Kennedy's and Franklin Halves are available. like a bag of one or the other. Free because halves have a 20 cent premium over regular "junk" SO what is my best play? the guy at GM said take the Kennedy's. Currently I have one roll of BU 64 kennedy's, Zero Franklins ( not familiar with them) and like... 150 bucks face value of quarters ( all bought on Ebay) I'm 29, live with my parents, so rent free, and have been trying to stack phyzz like crazy. What is my best move for this already paid for $100 bag of Silver? Sincerely, Dave |

The average person on the street may not understand that some of the Kennedy halves have 40% silver content and some have 90% silver content and some do not have any silver at all. All of the Franklin half dollars were made with 90 % silver. They did not over circulate like a lot of the thin mercury silver dimes. I do not care for silver quarters or silver Roosevelt dimes . (boring) This is just my opinion . |

thanks for those thoughts. It does become tricky when we hear about how many of these coins were melted down. It kind of sounds like there are A LOT of Kennedy halves still around. Maybe the Franklins got melted down more? Thanks for the reply!

RE: Help!! Big "Junk" Silver Decision to Make
You didn't mention how many dimes you already have. If you don't have any dimes you should have kept them. When the SHTF you will want the smaller denominations to barter with. If all other things being "equal", I would go with the Franklin halves.
By the way how did that order go for you with Goldmart? Did you see the other thread of the problems people have been having with them? http://www.brotherjohnf.com/forum/Thread...m-Goldmart |

RE: Help!! Big "Junk" Silver Decision to Make
I'd go with the '64 halves. A lot of people held on to them for a variety of reasons so a large portion look almost new. I had a large plastic Kennedy half dollar bank when I was young and Aunts/Uncles would give me their '64 halves when I did chores for them. Ben was alright but just didn't have the sentimental appeal of JFK.

RE: Help!! Big "Junk" Silver Decision to Make
the order went well at GoldMart. the move was tough for them, but they seem like an awesome company.
I have decided to stay with the quarters and wait it out. the kennedy's are cool, but its true that it is annoying that only one year had 90%. there does seem to be ALOT of them out in the market. I am just not into franklin halves, so I passed on those as well. I dont have any dimes, but I dont like how they small they are. I'd prefer to barter with a small 1/10 OZ round then an old dime. And for some reason... they are out of quarters. The quarters seems to be the perfect combination of all "Junk" small denomination, different years for a nice mixture of age, and scarcity.. Thanks for everyone's input. I am so darn indecisive. I needed people's input. |
