Over the last few months I have read several interviews and watched several youtube vids from people in the PM business saying that once a big move happens, it may be impossible for you to purchase metals.

The demand drains the system so fast that the coin supply dries up.

As soon as I see words like "cartel" and "raid" it just blows away any credibility the story might of had !

There absolutely nothing in either of those videos that is worth anything just because of the word cartel and raid.

In addition, when I see analysis from Perth Mint (or any mint) and Miles Franklin (or any coin dealer) "that says you should buy now", don't they have a vested interest? Wouldn't they make more money when the price is higher?

the what if question is back again.

past peak was $25, now we are marginally higher..still have plenty of silver, but people may be out of fiat to buy more metals.

the problem with supply is that, mints will only be producing coins for 6 to 9 months just to meet their past orders. no more new order will be display on majority of online sellers.

what can happen is for many people to see the price going higher but unable to secure metals fast enough.

the time to be buying near bottom prices will come to an end soon enough, before we even realize the bottom was behind us.

Yes and for those open minded people that actually watched the perth mint video, there some good info in there.

There are only a few places in the world that make the actual coin blanks.

A coin press cost about 1 million and you can have you own if you wanted, but most coin stampers buy the blanks from one of the few sources and then stamp the coins.

Including the US mint who buys their coin blanks from an outside source.

So when demand soars, even if you have a coin press, you may not be able to get blanks.

Well, If I were to avoid videos and commentary that included "cartel" or "Raid" or even "Smackdown" for that matter, I might as well just throw my Ipad away. I think it has been extremely strong evidence that there is manipulation in the markets.

Sure, that's a given. There isn't even any doubt these days that all the markets are manipulated.

But back to the main topic....
The belief that you can actually get merchandise when the big moves happen is something that many folks do not think about.

It is assumed that there is always a supply at all times which is not the case in real life.
2008 was a prime example of most dealers not being able to get inventory, but you knew that already because you watched the viodeo's

This was the big topic of discussion about a year-and-a-half ago. I was tracking inventories from APMEX to Gainesville to a few LCS's. Supply seemed to get thin for a bit but never dried up. I believe it will happen but I don't think we're there yet.

What, the words you saw on the screen that have nothing to do with the content of my post?
There's nothing in my post that has anything to do with the words that made your brain lock up. Or the words tin foil hat, which I am not sure what that has to do with coin inventories.
The post is about how inventory dries up when big moves happen and everyone tries to jump on board.

I find it true that you can judge a book by it's cover, don't you?

Well no, because the key wording is "Big Move"
Big move as in straight up, panic buying, etc
That has not happend yet, but it will and you may not be able to get anything at that point.

Ok, let me see if I have the new format correct so I can get with the program.

Ok, so the main subject is that when huge moves in PM's happen, the supplies dry up very quickly.

Let me add my own reply to that now that I understand how this works.

Several interesting comments that got my attention:

In 2008, every major mint in the world was back ordered for 16 weeks.

The major distributors would not take any orders.

The bull market will not only be defined by prices, but by lack of availability.

The big money out there that thinks they will get Gold someday will be shut out by lack of supply.

I wish I had not bought at $38.00 but I did... or I would be swooping it up at these prices. If it does drop substantially, there will be supply issues I believe. It will depend on how much it drops. I don't suspect it will drop for long. QE3 is right around the corner and the economy is worse everyday.

Wow I out visiting friends and working in the garden and I miss this whole crazy thread. I'm in with EL that shortages are a real possibility if people just into this market. BJF and Chris Duane have both said it is not going to take much if a few rich people realize that they want silver to push the market up. I feel under $30 is a deal and am buying as much as I can.

I didn't get on board till it had dropped into the $32's

Most of my purchases were from $29 to $27's

But, if this makes you feel any better.
I was on board when the hunt brothers ran silver up to $50
I was on the wrong side of the hill though.

You got that right, but the gist of my post was lost on most.
It basically was a heads up to those that are still waiting for the price to drop.
Once the boat leaves, it may be difficult to get on board.
Best to get on board while you can, but that's just my .02, (and many others)
