Compare silver prices . com
Brother John mentioned this web site is last night's update
http://www.comparesilverprices.com/ Pretty cool idea, but I see two sites missing Gainseville coin Goldmart (BTW - Goldmart is lower on most all of the items than anyone) I am thinking of emailing the site to get them to add more dealers if possible. I'll point them to this post Check out the compare silver prices web page and see if anyone else is missing. I'll edit the post and add them to the list below to have them all in one place Missing Dealers list US Gainseville coin - http://www.gainesvillecoins.com Goldmart - http://www.goldmart.com Canada http://www.Silvergoldbull.com http://www.preciousmetalhouse.com/ How's the stack hanging? |

Would be nice if they added some Canadian sites.

RE: Compare silver prices . com
If they could breakdown the choices into more silver options that would be helpful also.
Instead of just 10oz bar, add subcategories for JM 10oz bar, Engelhard 10oz bar, NTR 10 oz bar. Breakdown the 1oz rounds by mint, too. I know a lot of people prefer a certain type of bar or round, I think that would help a lot. "He appears, hands tied and head sacked, and I do the necessaries, collect my silver." |

RE: Compare silver prices . com
I've been tempted to write my own as an excuse to learn Jquery, but it seems kind of lame to steal the idea. I've wanted to have the ability to select what products to show in the table (including different metals in the same page), and add a cart option that lets you add stuff together and show a total from different vendors. I'd also like to see price over spot as a dollar amount rather than just as a percent. I'm pretty sure I remember he used to have Gainsville on there, but the prices kept not scraping right. And yeah, Goldmart needs to be on there.

This is a pretty nice site. If they grow it some more, and make a better interface it could be even better.

I bought 1000 silver Maples (1.99 pver spot) cause they are .60 each cheaper and they look really nice As for the Austrian philharmonic, I bought one of those just to see what they looked like. I must say thay are rather boring compared to Eagles and maples Gold and Silver Maples are my choice in coins back to the compare prices web site If you try and have too many products across the top row, the screen display gets funky My advice would be to click on a product type and have the table below fill out with the product Or be able to click up to 5 products from a list and do a compare type of thing This would keep the table small Right now on my small monitor, the site is unreadable On my large monitors it is fine since I have a ton of spoce horizontally How's the stack hanging? |

I buy maples because Canadians will have a been chance of understanding that they are minted in our country and will trust them more. I think Americans are more likely to trust ASE rather than Maples because they are Americans. When I go to the states a try to pass off a Canadian quarter people freak out. This would be the only reason I can think of and perhaps it is not that strong. In part, that is why I never buy rounds or bars not even RCM bars. Look at all the videos of guys trying to sell gold or silver to the public for pennies on the dollar and they won't even touch it. I think it was Chris who offered a 1 oz gold maple for a stick of gum and the lady said no! Those who are unwilling to invest in the future haven't earned one. ~H.W. Lewis |

He's bound to run into someone that knows the value of gold. He could very easily edit out the people that would take him up on his offer.

RE: Compare silver prices . com
BTW, I heard back from Bernank, who runs the Compare site.
he said this: Quote:He will flirt with the idea of adding the dealers we have listed here.... and that each dealer takes about 3 hours minimum to add them to compare silver I take his reply as "don't hold your breath because it's a huge outlay of his time and he is not getting paid" , which I totally understand. Ideally you would use a web service for this so that you know what data you are getting back. If a dedicated web service isn't available to retrieve the data you need, you could scrape the data from the html source from their publicly facing website. This can be done in just about any programming language using the same concepts, though implementation is a bit different. Basically, Step 1: fetch the source code from the web site. Step 2: run a Regular Expression (search for regular expression online, they can be weird to get used to at first but there are tutorials online) to pick out the data you want from the page. Step 3: profit! For example, here is this concept implemented in PHP to fetch the price of a single item from Provident. I tried this regular expression on both Maples and ASEs and it worked for both. Just change the URL. PHP Code: $url = "http://www.providentmetals.com/2012-1-oz-american-silver-eagle-bullion-coin.html";If the search worked, then $price will equal the cash discount price of one ASE at Provident, otherwise $price will be false. I hope that helps (it might not if you aren't a programmer but it sounds like you know a thing or two). |
