Best places to buy land?
I am always on the lookout for land sales. I think owning land in multiple remote places could be the key to survivng anything if the SHTF.
I usually look for land on http://www.landsofamerica.com (each state also has it's own e.g. landsofarizona.com) Curious where do the rest of you search for land sales? |

RE: Best places to buy land?
I know TX is hot and miserable (and we don't even live there) but we do own some remote hunting land there and it is one of the easiest places ever to get Ag Exemptions. We have aproximately 50 acres and pay $45.00 a year in property taxes. There is no fence on one side and the neighbors have cattle that roam over into our area from time to time. Because of this, we get the Ag Exemption. This is quite amazingly cheap considering that we have a friend where we live here that bought a "lot" in a development hoping to make some money and he pays $500.00 a year in property taxes. He finally unloaded the lot for 1/2 what he paid and that isn't taking into consideration the $500 a year he paid for the 6 years he owned it! The yearly property taxes are what you need to definately know.....

I don't live anywhere near those locations, so how would I go about finding land for sale out there? RE: Best places to buy land?
really? Do you mean SD? WY? I am in NE and I tell ya, you have to prove receipts to get any ag exempt so we don't buy in the farmland. A lot of the farmland here has already gone up because of foreigners buying "farmland". I would love to buy some land in WY given the scenerios where the State Gov. is actually preparing for a collapse. I have famiy in MT and ID also. Love ID. So is it sort of like TX where they don't even come out and check or they just don't have them at all?

RE: Best places to buy land?
Best place is your own country. In a SHTF scenario it will be hard to move and foreigners might lose the rights to their land. I'm off the opinion that you actually want to be in a place that has cold winters. Kills off a lot of bugs, desease and will keep away most people.

I have an abundance of natural resources available, and I live in a state where the population is 1 person per square mile. What I was really looking for was Websites to look at land plots. http://www.landsofamerica.com is an example |

I thought of this many times, but never wanted to spend the money to travel to the location to find out i was going to purchase a vertical stone cliff or swamp land. Of course you would want to check out the land first. The first land we purchased we actually bought without physically checking it out, but we had friends in the area who videotaped the entire area and gave us their opinions on what they felt. It was a great purchase and we sold it about 7 years later for a great profit. The second purchase, We drove 11 hours to TX and spent the weekend looking at remote properties. There is every possibility that you could end up buying a "cliff". We checked out a lot that looked on paper to be beautiful, only to find out that they posted the only picture that made it look nice. . If you are going to plunk down a substantial amount of money on some land, you better take a look at what you are buying.

An interesting concept for Americans:
http://www.survivalblog.com/redoubt.html In Canada, I'd like to find some land in Alberta but everything is so expensive here. May the best pet win! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E2Ltv9fjVe4 |

RE: Best places to buy land?
Yeah.. Acreage prices for land have not really dropped at all. If it is just land... it holds the value pretty good. They aren't making any more of it.
