Since doing my homework for the last 6 months, on Silver and the ecomony I've also learned that if the banks fail, everything will come to a hault. I can't invisage that happening, I just cant see it getting that bad esp here in the UK.......but theres always a little voice telling me to be prepared just in case. Two crucial things have happened in the last year to make a firm decesion on prepping, 1st being last years riots that had started with a guy getting killed, and the recent petrol scare, forcourts were running out in one day. Scary thing is what if people really had somthing to worry about! And so i seriously started looking at it last month. Since looking at whats out there, almost every Prepper website is from the US. I'm not sure if this is a good sign or not?!
Im aiming for 6 months supply of freeze dried food, medical supplys and fuel, water filtration etc. Its a strange feeling, I order these things thinking am I going mentallay insane, and then when i take delivery, it feels really good!!, to know that if the SHTF kicks off i dont have to panic, a warm feeling indeed! Are there other UK preppers? Doing it for different reasons? Be good to know Im not the only UK citazen thinking 'Have i lost it?!'. What are you prepping? Any good links for supplys?

RE: Any UK preppers?
Parkster, I think it is very sensible to have a decent food store. At the moment I have about 6 weeks food supply which is not really enough as I know that I would have to share it with others less prepared than myself.
I have plenty of cheap noodles and Heinz big soup tins, tinned pears, and packets of popping corn, rice, etc, etc. I've discovered that sweet potato lasts for ages so that is worth storing as well. And last week I ate a tin of pineapples that had a sell by date of march 2010 and it was sweet, nothing wrong with it at all. Incidentally there is a site called UK-preppers.co.uk. It is well established and there is a mine of information on there. I did try registering onto the site but I had problems, so I will try again. I need to get a first aid kit, water filter, and a portable gas stove to further enhance my preparations. I've asked the yanks on this forum to send me over a spare gun of theirs but I've had no offers yet! |

Noodles and popcorn sounds like my kinda thing! ![]() Thanks for the link, i will look at that today! Ive got first aid, water filtration and plenty of cat food, but now looking for our food needs. Do you think they would trade the gun in for some shiny silver coins!! Thats also on the list, a powerfull airgun. If someone ever tried robbing my home, i dont give a shit what the goverment would do to me after, i would hurt that person! Thats one thing the yanks have got right, a right to defend yourself, your family and you wealth! |

RE: Any UK preppers?
I have been storing food for about a year now - examples of what I buy is tinned soup which has a two year shelf life, tinned veg, fruit, desserts and fish which has 5 year shelf life and rice which has a 3 year shelf life. All of these items will usually last longer than the stated expiry date but I do rotate the items so that my emergency stock has the longest possible shelf life. I have plans to buy a vacuum packer so that I can make small bags of vacuum packed rice, dried onions, spices etc and this could easily add another 10 years onto the shelf life. I also purchased a dehydrator which is great - for the first time last summer I dried a lot of the apples from my garden and I still have them now and they still taste great.
When you go to the supermarket just spend some extra time looking at the shelf life of products and go for the ones that have the longest - be aware that the promotional items like buy one get one free are usually those items which are close to their expiry date and vendors want shot of them asap. I purchased a petrol generator recently too and my main requirement when purchasing one was to get one which generates Watts greater than my appliance which has the highest power draw, which was my cooker at 2000W. So the one I purchased was 2500W generator. But I am finding it difficult to stock pile fuel due to safety issues. So I will only use the generator in dire situations and will manage with fire/gas/solar at other times. If you own your own house in the UK, you can apply to the solar companies to install solar panels on your roof for free! the deal is that you use however much electricity you need and any surplus generated is sold by the company to the grid. I need to work harder on stocking medical supplies so if anyone has a good list I would appreciate if you could post it on this forum Regards, BlueVega - UK |
